Your Privacy Matters to us

Alumni-Connect has been developed by Virtuosos Solutions Private Limited (VSPL) to provide users a flexible platform where Colleges, Schools & Companies can create alumni directories to connect interested users and allow them to access useful info about each other and collaborate for betterment of the community. Student-Connect is a sub set of Alumni-Connect wherein additional sections like view lectures and assignment have been provided for students.

We are committed to be totally transparent in data collected from you, its use and its sharing with different entities.

This Privacy Policy applies when you use our Services (described below).  We offer you choice about data we collect, utilize and share as per the details shown in the Privacy Policy.

 

Introduction

Alumni-Connect is a platform which facilitates creation of  Alumni Community or Directory (referred as “Community” now on) where thousands of members can join and collaborate through web/mobile app. Anyone who wish to create a Alumni directory can Sign up to open an Admin account on  www.alumni-connect.in and start creating communities for his/her Institution using the tools provided. 

Alumni Directory has got restricted or approval based access.   Admin can decide what information members need to provide at the time of joining a Alumni viz Passout year, Branch, Job Company, Designation, Qualifications etc (Name, Mobile and Email Id are the mandatory info). 

 Members can join Alumni directory, subject to approval by the admin. They can access member directory, engage with members through call/SMS/email/chat/VC, post content, comment on posts, share photos, view news/events, offers, business listings etc.

 

Alumni-Connect aims to foster better collaboration and bonding among the friends through technology so that everyone is benefited and stay connected forever. .

 This Privacy Policy applies to Alumni-Connect website (www.alumni-connect.in ) and Alumni-Connect mobile apps developed using the Alumni-Connect platform, related Communications and Services (“Services”). This policy also applies to Student-Connect mobile platform which is subset of Alumni-connect, both shall be referred as "Alumni-Connect" now on.

Data Controllers and Contracting Parties

 Virtuosos Solutions Private Limited (VSPL), New Delhi - India (referred as “VSPL”) are the developers of the Alumni-Connect platform and will be the controller of your personal data provided to, or collected by or for, or processed in connection with our Services.  As Admin, Visitor or Member of our Services, the collection, use and sharing of your personal data is subject to this Privacy Policy and other documents referenced in this Privacy Policy, as well as updates.

Change

Changes to the Privacy Policy apply to your use of our Services after the “effective date.”

 

VSPL (“we” or “us”) can modify this Privacy Policy, and if we make material changes to it, we will provide notice through our Services, or by other means, to provide you the opportunity to review the changes before they become effective. If you object to any changes, you may ask the admin of your community to close your account.

 You acknowledge that your continued use of our Services after we publish or send a notice about our changes to this Privacy Policy means that the collection, use and sharing of your personal data is subject to the updated Privacy Policy, as of its effective date.

 

1. What data we collect

1.1 Data You Provide To Us

 

1.1.1 ON REGISTRATION

 

You provide data to create an account with Alumni-Connect platform.

 

To be able to start using Alumni-Connect mobile app, you first need to create an account on platform by providing following min information:

  1. Name,
  2. Mobile number and
  3. Email address

Your mobile number is authenticated through OTP and then account is created. You can now view list of Alumni directories available on Alumni-Connect platform.


1.1.2 ON JOINING A COMMUNITY

 

You create your profile for the particular Alumni Directory and data is captured

Alumni Directories are created by users who have registered as Admins on Alumni-Connect Platform (alumni-connect.in ). Admins set criteria for information to be collected from members before joining their Alumni.

When you select a Alumni directory to join, you are presented with a form showing information you need to provide for approval of membership.   When you submit the form, Alumni directory admin reviews and grant approval. Your Alumni profile is then created with the information you provided. 

 

1.1.3 ON EDITING PROFILE

 

Your edited Profile data is captured

The information you provide to join a Alumni becomes your profile info which you can change anytime from Edit Profile section of the particular Alumni directory subject to restrictions posed by the admin. It is your choice to include or exclude different information in your profile. We capture all data changes you made in your profile info.

 Always be careful to share your sensitive info publicly. 

 If you wish not to be disturbed, you also have an option to hide your contact information (Mobile & telephone numbers) from other members, in such case your contact numbers are hidden in the directory listing. 

 

1.1.4 POSTING AND UPLOADING

 

Your data is captured when you like, comment or post .

You can post Buzz, like and comment on other posts, photo gallery and ads. Your relevant personal data is associated for identification purpose & relevant data is captured. 

 

1.1.5 REFER A NEW MEMBER

 

Your phone contact list is accessed by App when you choose to refer a new member from your phone contact list

When you decide to refer a new member for any directory, you have an option to select contact from your phone contact list. If you select phone contact list, then app access your contact list and you can select a contact who you want to refer. App then picks the name, telephone/mobile no & email id of the selected contact only for filling the referral form and transmits to the server when you submit the form. No other data is accessed by the app. Directory Admin can review the referred member details and approve or reject the membership. 

If membership is rejected, the contact details of the referred person is put in archival data and not utilized in any manner. If membership is approved, then member gets and welcome email with app downloading instructions. He can opt out also by replying the mail. If he choses to join the directory then his details are inserted in directory database and is used in manner described in clause 2 of this policy. 

 

1.2     Automatically Collected Information

1.2.1 Your Visits and Activities

We log your visits and use of our Services when you use web & mobile apps.

 

We log usage data when you visit or otherwise use our Services, including our sites, mobile app and platform technology, such as when you view or click on content or ads, perform a search, install or update one of our mobile apps, share articles or apply for jobs. We use log-ins, cookies and internet protocol (“IP”) addresses to identify you and log your use.

 

1.2.2 Your Device and Location

We receive data from your devices and networks including location data

If you use our Services like nearby Business etc from a mobile app, that device will send us data about your location seeking your permission. We will ask you to opt-in before we use GPS to identify your precise location.

1.2.3 Chat Messages

 

If you communicate through our chat Services, we learn about that and store user & chat data.

 

We collect information about you when you send, receive, or engage with chat messages in connection with Chat Services provided to you. Chat data is unencrypted.

 

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to provide, support, personalize and develop our Services.

  How we use your personal data will depend on which Services you use, how you use those Services and the choices you make in you profile settings We use the data that we have about you to provide and personalize our Services.


2.1 Services

Our Services help you connect with others, find and be found for collaborative reasons of common interest, stay informed about happenings and be more participative.

 

Stay Connected

 

Our Services allow you to stay in touch and up to date with fellow community members, see nearby alumni and business (based on address), view offers etc

 

Stay Informed

 Our Services allow you to stay informed about news, events and ideas regarding various topics of community interests, events, photos of the happenings etc. Your name, photo and contact details are shown whenever you post, like , comment on any such posts so that users can view and connect with you.


2.2 Communications

Our system enables communication between Members. You can restrict mode of communications to some extent from profile setting. Some communications you also receive from us.

 

Alumni members & admin(s) will contact you through email, mobile phone, notices posted on our websites/ app, including text messages, email and push notifications. We will send you messages about the availability of our Services, security, or other service-related issues. We also send messages about how to use our Services, reminders, and promotional messages/offers from us and our partners. Please be aware that you cannot opt out of receiving service messages from us.

2.3 Advertising

 

You will receive Ads from our partners who are interested to reach out to different communities/geographies based on their business interests. We don’t share your contact details with any Ad providers.

 

We target ads to alumni members directly or through a variety of partners, using the following data, whether separately or combined:

 Data from advertising technologies on and off our Services, pixels, ad tags, cookies, and device identifiers;

  • Community profile, Location etc
  • Member-provided information (e.g., profile, contact information, and address);
  • Information inferred from data described above (e.g., using job titles from a profile to infer industry, seniority, using graduation dates to infer age or using first names or pronoun usage to infer gender or using device data to recognize you as a Member).

 

Info to Ad Providers

 We do not share your personal data with any third-party advertisers or ad networks. Advertisers, only are shown total ad views, likes and Comments with your hashed IDs.

2.4 Customer Support

 

We use data to help you and fix problems or bugs related to software.

 

We use data (which can include your communications) to investigate, respond to and resolve complaints and for Service and app issues (e.g., bugs).

2.5 Security and Investigations

.

We use data for security, fraud prevention and investigations.

 

We use your data (including your communications) for security purposes or to prevent or investigate possible fraud or other violations of our  system and/or attempts to harm our app users, admins, visitors or others.

 

 3. How We Share Information

3.1 Our Services

Any data that you include on your profile and any content you post or social action (e.g., likes, follows, comments, shares) you take on our Services will be seen by others, consistent with your settings. Community Admins, sub-admins can view full data of members.

 

 Profile

Your profile is fully visible to all members of your community only. Your contact details can be hidden in case you have set your profile to prevent the same. Admin/sub-admins/Moderators of your community can access members full profile info irrespective of the privacy setting set by the member.

Posts, Likes, Comments, Messages

 Our Services allow viewing and sharing information including through posts, likes, follows and comments.

  • In a community directory, posts/buzz/news/events/photo gallery etc are visible to other members of the same community only. No outsider access is permissible to view these.

3.2 Legal Disclosures

 

We may need to share your data when we believe it’s required by law or to help protect the rights and safety of you, us or others.

 It is possible that we will need to disclose information about you when required by local law or other legal process or if we have a good faith belief that disclosure is reasonably necessary to (1) investigate, prevent or take action regarding suspected or actual illegal activities or to assist government enforcement agencies; (2) enforce our agreements with you; (3) investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations; (4) protect the security or integrity of our Services (such as by sharing with companies facing similar threats); or (5) exercise or protect the rights and safety of VSPL, our Members, personnel or others. We attempt to notify Members about legal demands for their personal data when appropriate in our judgment, unless prohibited by law or court order or when the request is an emergency. We may dispute such demands when we believe, in our discretion, that the requests are overbroad, vague or lack proper authority, but we do not promise to challenge every demand.

3.3 Change in Control or Sale

We may share your data when our business is sold to others, but it must continue to be used in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

 

We can also share your personal data as part of a sale, merger or change in control of VSPL, or in preparation for any of these events. Any other entity which buys us or part of our business will have the right to continue to use your data, but only in the manner set out in this Privacy Policy unless you agree otherwise.

4. Your Choices & Obligations

4.1 Data Retention

We keep most of your personal data till you close your account.

 

We generally retain your personal data as long as you keep your membership open or as needed to provide you Services. This includes data you or others provided to us and data generated or inferred from your use of our Services. Even if you not use any of our Services, we will retain your information and keep your profile open, unless you close your account. In some cases we choose to retain certain information (e.g., insights about Services use) in a depersonalized or aggregated form.

4.2 Rights to Access and Control Your Personal Data

 

You can access or modify your personal data through edit profile section anytime. Some fields change may be changed only by Admins on request,  

 For personal data that we have about you, you can:

  • Change or Correct Data: You can edit your personal data, profile photo etc through your Edit profile section of the respective community. However, some sensitive data fields may be locked for editing by Admin, which can be changed by the Admin only (like mobile no, batch, branch) when you send request for change. You can also ask Admin of your community to change, update or fix your data in certain cases, particularly if it’s inaccurate.

4.3 Account Closure

.

You can request Admin of your community for your account closure. However, we keep some of your data even after you close your account

 

If you choose to close your alumni  account by requesting Admin, your personal data will generally stop being visible to others on our Services immediately when admin deletes it.  We retain your personal data even after you have closed your account if reasonably necessary to comply with our legal obligations (including law enforcement requests), meet regulatory requirements, resolve disputes, maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse enforce our User Agreement, or fulfill your request to "unsubscribe" from further messages from us. We will retain de-personalized information after your account has been closed.

 Information you have shared with others (e.g., through buzz, chats, news, photo gallery or group posts) will remain visible after you close your account or delete the information from your own profile, and we do not control data that other Members have copied out of our Services. Groups content and ratings or review content associated with closed accounts will show an unknown user as the source. Your profile may continue to be displayed in the services of others (e.g., search engine results) until they refresh their cache or refresh their community directory in app.

5. Other Important Information

5.1. Security

 

We monitor for and try to prevent security breaches yet it is not 100% guaranteed. .

 We implement security safeguards designed to protect your data, such as HTTPS. We regularly monitor our systems for possible vulnerabilities and attacks. However, we cannot warrant the security of any information that you send our system. Admins of your community have full access of your data and if they misuse it then VSPL has no control over it. You need to ensure that you only join communities whose Admins you know are trustworthy. In all cases, restrain from adding any sensitive information in profile for directory members. There is no guarantee that data may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical, or managerial safeguards.

5.2. Hosting Infrastructure

We store your data within India only.

 Our servers are hosted in Cloud Data Centre located in India from reputed Service providers and all the member data reside within India only.
